A Travel Journal of Jackson in Wyoming β’ Snowy Town
1. Never had I envisioned traveling to Wyoming, nor did I anticipate that the town of Jackson, which seemed rather isolated, would stir within me the urge to revisit it multiple times. ππΊοΈπ π Let's commence with the accommodation aspect. We lodged at the Rustic Inn, presumably a four-star establishment. One merit it boasted was that a trail ascending the mountain was accessible right from behind the inn. Numerous deer would make their way along this trail into the inn's vicinity. Thus, it presented us with opportunities to interact closely with wild animals! The inn included a basic breakfast in its offerings, although the town itself had a plethora of delightful dining options. Its location was rather favorable. Across from it lay the Elk Refuge, and it was merely a seven- or eight-minute stroll to reach the town center. Additionally, the inn provided a shuttle for trips to the ski resort and transportation within a 2-mile range. πποΈπ Nevertheless, there were drawbacks too. The soundproofing of our double room was woefully inadequate. It was so poor that I could transcribe every word of our neighbors' phone conversations... The air conditioner was unbearably noisy... And the water pressure of the showerhead was somewhat feeble... πποΈπ« 2. π Moving on to transportation. On this occasion, we opted not to rent a car and primarily got around on foot. We depended on Uber for our journeys to and from the airport. Given the town's modest size, it took us approximately ten minutes to walk from our inn to the town center. It was around a fifteen-minute walk from the town to the Snow King Ski Resort (Snow King?). Our daily routine for enjoying the snow involved first heading to the town, having a cup of coffee and breakfast, and then walking to the ski resort for some fun. The pathways were easy to navigate. Even as the sun set, the town remained populated. πππΆ π‘ Now, onto the main attractions. What can one do in this Western town? Foremost among my anticipations was the wildlife observation tour. Our guide was truly proficient and well-versed. Amid the heavy snowfall at year-end, we spotted elk during their migration, moose that had freshly shed their antlers, inquisitive otters peeking out, bighorn sheep engaged in courtship, the iconic bald eagle of the US, and bison rolling about, among many others. ππ¦π¦ The National Elk Refuge opposite our inn was a prime location for elk viewing. Besides the magnificent elk, we could also observe mallards, white swans, and the like. ππ¦’π 3. Jackson Town is a quintessential tourist town. Hence, as you wander through the town center, you'll encounter a multitude of souvenir and handicraft shops. I found it truly enjoyable to explore them. On the first day, I spent an entire afternoon browsing. When it came to skiing, I was a complete novice. I even reckoned that the standout feature of the Snow King Ski Resort was tubing. Of course, taking the cable car to the mountaintop for sightseeing and experiencing the Cowboy Coaster were equally entertaining. Even during the peak season towards the year-end, the ski resort wasn't overly crowded. *There's another more popular ski resort in Jackson that we didn't visit, so I can't offer an assessment. Finally, there's the breathtaking Grand Teton National Park. It showcases distinct beauty depending on the weather. We spent two days admiring the Grand Teton Mountains. When the clouds dispersed, the peaks were sharp and clear. When the mist swirled, they took on an ethereal, veiled appearance. In short, each vista had its own allure. πποΈβ°οΈ π₯£ Food is my forte! I'll continue writing about it in the subsequent part. ππ΄π #WyomingAdventure #JacksonTown #GrandTetonPark
