A Trip to Torquay! Adventure and Relaxation in a British Seaside Town
Torquay is a stunning coastal town, often called the "English Riviera" for its unique geography and natural beauty. Recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark, it boasts charming beaches, dramatic cliffs, and serene woodlands, making it a perfect holiday destination. The surrounding area features sustainable organic farms and numerous eco-friendly initiatives. The Kaplan Torquay campus offers picturesque views and includes a private swimming pool, an on-site café, and a terrace garden with scenic overlooks—just a 5-minute walk from the city center. The school organizes exciting weekly activities for students, such as visits to Quaywest Waterpark, Kent’s Cavern Prehistoric Caves, the fishing town of Brixham, Torre Abbey, city tours of Exeter, the naval port city of Plymouth and its National Marine Aquarium, boat trips in Dartmouth (passing by Agatha Christie’s former home), the Elizabethan Market in Totnes, and hidden coastal gems like Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Shaldon. Kaplan Torquay students can also enjoy surfing and other thrilling adventures. This August, students from over 35 different countries are studying at Kaplan Torquay, with the highest numbers coming from Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and Spain. Currently, there is only one Chinese student on campus. One student shared their experience—let’s hear what they have to say about life in Torquay: "I came to Torquay to study English because my skills were weak, and this place was more affordable with fewer Chinese students. Here, I’m the only Chinese student in the whole school, so I’m ‘forced’ to speak English every day with my international friends—in class, during meals, and while hanging out. The classes are really fun! Since my classmates are from all over the world, everyone has a different accent, so I have to listen carefully to understand them. I’ve made friends from France, Germany, Turkey, and Spain. I taught them Chinese poker, and now we play cards together every day. We also go bowling often—it’s been so much fun! Torquay is a small town, and the locals are very warm and friendly. They always greet you when you pass by, and there’s no discrimination at all. My host family is amazing—super kind and welcoming. They share their stories with me every day. I even met a great neighbor, an old man who takes me fishing every weekend. It’s been incredible! Torquay is absolutely beautiful—every day feels like a movie scene!" #StudyInUK #BestDayTrips #RomanticGetaway #TravelInspo
