The Botanical Gardens are set in reasonably large grounds, and have an interesting history, which is described on signs around the gardens. There is a small castle type structure, which seems to occasionally be used as a tea room. There are efforts underway to find volunteers and funding to make this a more regular thing, but it was closed when we were there. There is a witch's cave, but this was also closed while we were there while the structural integrity is being checked. No indication of how long this, or any remedial work, might take. Read moreAttractively laid out linear garden once in private ownership, now owned by the council. The garden has the active support of volunteers who help maintain and improve its appearance. The garden can be accessed from the village or from the Shaldon to Torquay road There are fine mature trees , and shrubs with some flowering shrubs /seasonal planting. There are excellent views across the estuary to Teignmouth and the coast beyond. There is no general parking but it's possible to park in.the village or on the Ness headland. Read moreThis has improved vastly since a dedicated bunch of volunteers have been clearing, tidying and re-planting supervised by a professional gardener. We met the gardener and he showed us inside the interesting castle which can be hired for private parties. There are beautiful trees in the garden and pretty plantings in the rockeries.
