A Vibrant Día De Muertos Celebration Has Taken Over Flatiron — And It’s Completely Free To Explore

Grab your marigolds and adorn your ofrendas because Flatiron Nomad Partnership has once again transformed the district into a colorful celebration for Día de Muertos! Though the district’s annual Día de Muertos festivities was limited to just one week last year, this year’s iteration has expanded into a whole month of interactive ways to honor the traditional Day of the Dead holiday in NYC. Plus, it’s entirely free to everyone! Día de los Muertos or Día de Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday dating back to pre-Hispanic origin. According to popular belief, from October 31 – November 2 the deceased souls return home to be with their loved ones, and altars are assembled with offerings, food, and drink to welcome and celebrate their visit. This year, the holiday will be observed Saturday, November 1 to Sunday, November 2, 2025. When is Flatiron’s Día de Muertos week? --------------------------------------- The month-long celebration of Día de Muertos in Flatiron is running Friday, October 10th to Monday, November 3rd, 2025. What’s happening in Flatiron during Día de Muertos week? -------------------------------------------------------- Visitors will have an opportunity to discover and experience several temporary public art installations, including: October 10 – November 2 * 🖼️ Noche de Ánimas – a temporary outdoor photo exhibit featuring a rich collection of photographs documenting the rituals of Michoacán’s Pátzcuaro riverbank (Flatiron South Plaza) * 📷 Día de Muertos photo frame – a vibrant, Día de Muertos-themed installation by local artist Blanka Amezkua featuring colorful ribbons, sugar skulls, and maize husks set against the iconic Flatiron Building (Flatiron North Plaza) Late October – November 2 * 🖌️ Traditional Mexican folk art Papel Picado decor by artist Tanya Aguiñiga strung in the sky (Flatiron South Plaza) November 1 – November 3 * 💀 Community altar – Honor the memory of loved ones by visiting the altar designed by Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders (Flatiron North Plaza) For those just passing through the district, there will also be a digital neighborhood scavenger hunt hosted on Flatiron’s Instagram.
