A Visit to Emery Walker's House: A Hidden Gem in Hammersmith! 🏑

We had no idea this incredible tour option existed in Hammersmith until we read about other sites related to William Morris! What a fantastic discovery! 🀩 Compared to other William Morris Trust properties nearby, this house is a true time capsule! It's a whole building filled to the brim with an incredible number of items directly connected to the lives of William Morris and his close friend/business partner, Emery Walker. Stepping inside feels like time has stood still since the last family member passed away – it's an extraordinary and deeply moving experience to walk through. πŸ’« A few important things to know for your visit:πŸ’•πŸ˜ It's rarely open and operates on timed, guided tours only. Lighting is kept deliberately low to protect the fragile interiors. No photography is allowed inside the house. All bags must be stored in provided lockers in the arrival hall. The day we visited was unusually warm, and with the windows sealed for conservation, the house became quite stuffy. 🌑️ Remember to dress appropriately for the weather – we were warned it can be equally chilly inside during winter! ❄️ Give yourself plenty of time to find the place – it's tucked away in a picturesque Hammersmith neighborhood and can be tricky to locate! Make sure to arrive at least 10 minutes early to avoid keeping the group and the two wonderful guides waiting, like we almost did! πŸ˜… A lovely surprise: the house faces the river, with the street entrance at the rear. During our visit, the garden was absolutely beautiful, filled with blooming wisteria! 🌸 All in all, this is a unique, authentic, and unmissable experience in London for any history or arts and crafts enthusiast! #EmeryWalkersHouse #HiddenGem #WilliamMorris #TimeCapsule #LondonHistory
