After Seven Years Of Construction, The Studio Museum In Harlem Will Open Its New, 82,000-Square-Foot Building This November
The wait is over: **The Studio Museum in Harlem** has set an opening date of November 15th, 2025. Prepare for an autumn of exploration and **exhibit**hopping. The uptown institution closed its doors in 2018 for construction, and now, a seven-floor, 82,000-square-foot space awaits the community, courtesy of Adjaye Associates and executive architect Cooper Robertson . “As our historic homecoming approaches, I am reflecting on the transformative vision of the artists, supporters, and community members who have helped us shape this pivotal moment in our legacy,” said Thelma Golden , Ford Foundation Director and Chief Curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem. “Our breathtaking new building is an invaluable space and a tribute to the Museum’s mission and the vitality of artists of African descent. I am thrilled to welcome everyone back to a reimagined Studio Museum, rooted in Harlem and resonating.” All about The Studio Museum in Harlem’s reopening ------------------------------------------------- To kick off the stellar return, there will be a **free**community day on the 15th featuring performances, games, giveaways, and DJ sets. Mark your calendars for 11am-9pm. As far as what the **Harlem**space will look like on a regular basis? It’ll be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11am to 6pm. Put an end to Sunday Scaries with Studio Sundays , which includes drop-in art-making workshops, guided family tours, gallery talks, and storytimes. There will be a presentation of Tom Lloyd’s work , who was the subject of the Studio Museum’s inaugural exhibition in 1968. Additionally, there will be a rotating installation of works from the Museum’s distinguished permanent collection — over 9,000 pieces with works from all the way back to the 1800s.
