The Studio Museum in Harlem generally offers a fascinating multiplex perspective on African and African American life for those who are open to it. We didn't get to see much, as the exhibits are being packed for moving out of the building, which is going to be torn down; a new, gorgeous building is planned, and we look forward to seeing it in the future! For people considering visiting this museum, check the website for information, as exhibits will be available in nearby locations beginning in May 2018. The museum store alone is well worth a visit! It and the small amount we were able to see let us know this is a fabulous museum to which we will plan another visit.
As for the perspective that the museum is located in "a dangerous neighborhood" shared by one reviewer; I disagree. That comment is incorrect, and, frankly, it sounds racist. Far from pretentious, it's a place where the history of Harlem hangs out, from Romare Bearden to the artist that you don't even know about who is changing perceptions with their creative strokes, this is THE place. Just like ya boy Pumkin Escobar, it's in Harlem. Come here, getchu some culture. You'll be...
