Alaska Fairbanks & Anchorage
Alaska Fairbanks & Anchorage Pitfalls & Recommendations 1 I spent a full week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, and I feel it’s necessary to write this post to help others avoid pitfalls or discover hidden gems 💡. All opinions are based on personal experience — take it or leave it, but please consider it rationally. If you disagree… well, I can’t help that 😬. [I’ll rate each item based on my experience, out of 5 points] 🏠 Anchorage – 2 Days 🍕 A Certain Moose Pizzeria — 0/5. I really thought it was mediocre or downright poor 😑. As a carb-lover who hadn’t eaten all day, I was excited to devour some pizza. We ordered a four-flavor combo — it was oily, greasy, and left a film-like coating in my mouth 💔. (I could complain more, but I’ll hold back.) 🏔️ Glacier Hike — 5/5. Highly recommend the guided tour from glacier-tour.com. They provide free ice cleats (the kind you strap over your own shoes) and snow pants 🧊❄️. The whole hike lasts about 30–45 minutes — you walk on the glacier and even through ice layers. Very photogenic 📸. Make sure to keep your face, hands, and feet warm 🧤🧣! 🫎 Reindeer Farm — 3/5. You can feed reindeer, alpacas, and various cows (yaks? I can’t tell the difference 😅). Some animals can be petted. The whole tour takes about 45 minutes. The drive from the city to the farm is quite scenic 🌲🛣️. If possible, I’d recommend renting a car in Anchorage — it makes everything much easier 🚗💨! I originally planned to drive to Seward, but ran out of time. Maybe next trip 😬. 🏠 Fairbanks – 5 Days 🏨 Hotel — 1/5. I was on a tour, so my hotel options were very limited 😔. Unfortunately, I got placed at a certain Quinta — nothing within walking distance 🚶♂️❌, only the hotel’s own convenience store and breakfast (which was terrible 🤢). When booking a hotel, be sure to check what’s nearby, or you might end up waiting over 2 hours for delivery like I did 🥲. ♨️ Chena Hot Springs — 3/5. The changing rooms were gross and smelly (I’m a guy, not sure about the women’s side) 🤮. In the indoor hot tub, there was a clump of floating hair and who-knows-what — I noped out immediately 🏃♂️💨. Outside, there are hot spring pools and hot tubs. Most people crowd the main pools, so the hot tub area was quiet (which I liked 😌). But the pools were packed — I was pretty worried about water quality, though I didn’t notice anything wrong at the time. I skipped the ice museum, but from what I’ve read online, it doesn’t seem great either… 😬 #Alaska#Fairbanks#Anchorage#NorthernLights#AlaskaGuide#PitfallWarning#TravelDiary#NorthAmericaTravel
