Stay｜ Pike’s Waterfront Lodge Transport｜ The hotel offers an airport shuttle, which was super helpful for our late arrival—no need to haul luggage and find a ride ourselves 🚌🎒. Day 1 we joined an 8-hour tour at Borealis Basecamp: Up-close reindeer interaction and feeding 🦌🥕 About 1 hour of snowmobiling—great for beginners 🏍️❄️ Each person gets a $20 meal voucher to use at Latitude 65 in the camp 🍽️💵 The tour included round-trip transportation, so we didn’t rent a car that day 🚐✨. After the tour, we returned to Fairbanks and had dinner at Pike’s Landing next to Pike’s—surprisingly delicious! 😋🍴 That night, we stayed in a cozy mountaintop cabin. It had snowed all day and was heavily overcast, so we’d given up all hope of seeing the aurora ❄️☁️. But once we reached the cabin— maybe because of the higher altitude, the clouds suddenly cleared ☁️✨. And then: Lying in bed, we witnessed an aurora explosion. 🛏️🌠 Stay｜ The Overlook at Cleary Summit Transport｜ The cabin provides a shuttle to/from downtown Fairbanks 🚗🏡. The next morning, we enjoyed a warm cabin breakfast—it felt like being cared for in Alaska 🍳❤️. That day, we booked a 1-hour dog sledding tour near the airport at Trail Breaker Kennel. Honestly, the experience wasn’t great 😔. The dogs seemed generally thin, and one had blood around its mouth—it was unsettling to see 🐕💔. After the ride, we thought: this might be my first and last time dog sledding. Not highly recommended—check reviews carefully before booking ⚠️📝. It was Christmas Day, so many places were closed 🎄🚪. We ended up at Fushimi Japanese: The sashimi was pretty good 🍣👌 The mains leaned a bit sweet overall 🍚🍯 Stay｜ Wedgewood Resort Transport｜ Rented an AWD SUV from Enterprise 🚙🔑 The following days included trips to Denali and Chena Lake for aurora viewing.
