Alaska Fairbanks Slow-Travel Diary ✨

I planned a week of Memorial Day activities with friends, but arrived in Fairbanks a week early for some relaxed exploring. 🌅 First impression: the sunset time blew my mind — 11:39 PM! And sunrise before 4 AM. It’s like twilight barely ends before dawn begins. 🌄 💰 Second impression: It’s expensive! Even in what’s not peak season, accommodations weren’t cheap. If not for a kind Airbnb host giving a discount, daily stays would start at $180+. No motels in sight — maybe next time I’ll camp. This place truly feels like camping heaven! ⛺❤️ 📍 As the “Heart of Alaska,” Fairbanks is small but has everything you need — just not a lot of it. 🙂↔️ Here’s where I wandered: 🍽️ The Pump House Considered fine dining here. I was torn between steak and seafood risotto until the server said: “You can have steak with risotto as a side.” Genius move! 🔪 Added oysters to the order. The steak was cooked just how I like — charred outside, rare inside. Perfect. Risotto and oysters were solid too. 🥞 The Crepery Got a sweet-recommended crepe (didn’t quite catch the flavor name 😅). Tasty! P.S. The Fairbanks Alaska mural is right next door — cool photo spot! 🦀 Chowder House Crab Roll — tasted fresh to me (very subjective though!). Great for lazy crab lovers who still want crab meat without the work. 🏞️ Pioneer Park Not quite open yet (visited 05/22). Mostly locals walking around. Was hoping to check out the aircraft exhibit — maybe next time. 🐮 University of Alaska Museum of the North The animal specimens are incredibly lifelike! 🚗 Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum Vintage car collection — so well curated.
