Alaska Fairbanks Slow-Travel Diary โจ
I planned a week of Memorial Day activities with friends, but arrived in Fairbanks a week early for some relaxed exploring. ๐ First impression: the sunset time blew my mind โ 11:39 PM! And sunrise before 4 AM. Itโs like twilight barely ends before dawn begins. ๐ ๐ฐ Second impression: Itโs expensive! Even in whatโs not peak season, accommodations werenโt cheap. If not for a kind Airbnb host giving a discount, daily stays would start at $180+. No motels in sight โ maybe next time Iโll camp. This place truly feels like camping heaven! โบโค๏ธ ๐ As the โHeart of Alaska,โ Fairbanks is small but has everything you need โ just not a lot of it. ๐โ๏ธ Hereโs where I wandered: ๐ฝ๏ธ The Pump House Considered fine dining here. I was torn between steak and seafood risotto until the server said: โYou can have steak with risotto as a side.โ Genius move! ๐ช Added oysters to the order. The steak was cooked just how I like โ charred outside, rare inside. Perfect. Risotto and oysters were solid too. ๐ฅ The Crepery Got a sweet-recommended crepe (didnโt quite catch the flavor name ๐ ). Tasty! P.S. The Fairbanks Alaska mural is right next door โ cool photo spot! ๐ฆ Chowder House Crab Roll โ tasted fresh to me (very subjective though!). Great for lazy crab lovers who still want crab meat without the work. ๐๏ธ Pioneer Park Not quite open yet (visited 05/22). Mostly locals walking around. Was hoping to check out the aircraft exhibit โ maybe next time. ๐ฎ University of Alaska Museum of the North The animal specimens are incredibly lifelike! ๐ Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum Vintage car collection โ so well curated. Car enthusiasts should visit. โ๏ธ Overall, I think Fairbanks might be livelier in winter โ many attractions here seem winter-oriented. #Fairbanks #Alaska #TravelScenes #AlaskaTravel #FoodGuide #FairbanksFood #Anchorage #StudyAbroad #Travel #AlaskaTourism #AnchorageFood #FairbanksLife #SlowTravel #ExploreAlaska #NorthernAdventures #MidnightSun #TravelDiaries
