Alexandria, Egypt | Budget-Friendly Food & Drinks Guide

Main Meals: 1️⃣ La Alexandria 🔸 Squid: 400 EGP/kg – Half a kilo is enough for two. The fried squid is delicious. 🔸 Grilled fish (see pic 2): 140 EGP/kg – Choose your size; very tender and worth ordering. 🔸 Seafood soup: 100 EGP/bowl – They forgot to serve ours, so I didn’t get to try it. 🔸 Rice: 15 EGP/person 🔹 Free: Salad, soup in cups, bread (bottled drinks extra). 🔹 No service charge, but they might ask for tips. 🔹 Tip: Go for lunch when the seafood selection is freshest. 2️⃣ Stir-Fry & Grilled Meat Restaurant (Navigate to El Server) A super popular local spot with wok hei (wok breath)—super crowded at night! 🔸 Stir-fried liver (pic 5): 125 EGP – Similar to stir-fried beef heart (forgot the price). Very Chinese-friendly flavor, though a bit heavy on seasoning. 🔸 Kushari (pic 6): A local staple. Many people order it—try a small portion (with or without liver). 🔸 Lamb stew set (pic 8, circled on menu): 220 EGP (includes rice + soup). Delicious, made with lamb ribs, and the portion is huge! 🔹 Note: We took it to-go—no service fee. 3️⃣ Beef Pie Restaurant (Navigate to Ahmed SIEF, nearby) 🔸 Stuffed pigeon with rice: 150 EGP – A must-try national dish, incredibly fragrant and tasty. 🔸 Beef pies: S/M/L for 90/140/170 EGP – Super flavorful, best eaten hot. 🔹 Note: Takeaway—no service fee. Drinks: 1️⃣ Sugarcane Juice Only 5 EGP for a big cup! Found at the intersection right after exiting the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa. 🔹 Tip: Any roadside stall that doesn’t overcharge will taste good. 2️⃣ El Kopassiy Specializes in mango juice (40 EGP) and orange juice (30 EGP)—cheap, fresh, and delicious. Located near the beef pie restaurant. 3️⃣ Starbucks Super cheap here! The one by the sea has a great second-floor view. 4️⃣ Cilantro Alex Library Near the library—affordable with a nice view. The second floor overlooks the library (great for photos) and has a cozy student vibe. Snacks: 1️⃣ Traditional Sweets Walk deep into the alley where the beef pie shop is, and you’ll find this sweet shop on the left. 🔹 Everything with filo dough is delicious! 🔹 Sold by weight, but you can ask for just 1-2 pieces of each. The staff is super helpful—got a whole box for just 40 EGP! Supermarket: Gomla Market – A big supermarket with everything you need. #TravelDiaries #Egypt #Alexandria
