An open-air sculpture museum
The buildings and sculptures around the square blend together to form a natural art museum. It was once the residence of the Medici family and now serves as the town hall of Florence. 1ļøā£ David Statue - The David statue in the Piazza della Signoria has stood here since 1501-1504. Not only is it a masterpiece of the Renaissance, but it also vividly embodies the spirit of humanism. The statue you see now is a replica; the original by Michelangelo is housed in the Accademia Gallery.š» 2ļøā£ Fountain of Neptune - The Fountain of Neptune was built in 1565 to celebrate the marriage of a Medici family member. The face of the sea god Neptune resembles Cosimo I, symbolizing Florence's maritime dominance. This is a 19th-century replica, with the original preserved in the National Museum.š 3ļøā£ Perseus with the Head of Medusa - Perseus, the son of Zeus, was tasked by Athena to retrieve the head of the Gorgon Medusa. After a thrilling adventure, he succeeded in bringing back the Gorgon's head. In the sculpture, the detail of Medusa's veins protruding after being beheaded is particularly striking. Perseus stands on Medusa's body, every muscle tense with power, holding a sword in his right hand, exuding heroic vigor. š In the evening, as the crowd thins and the setting sun turns the marble honey-colored, I sat on the steps and suddenly understood why Florentines always say, "Our stones speak."
