Anna The Chop House-Steak-like atmosphere restaurant

Ann Arbor’s Upscale Spot – Fancy Vibe for Dates, But Overpriced & Just “Okay” Food 🍲 Apps: Lobster Bisque Shines, Onion Soup Flops Appetizers were a split—one was creamy and satisfying, the other was a tangy letdown: Lobster Bisque: The best starter we had! It’s thick, sweet, and briny (classic lobster flavor), with just a hint of saltiness. You can even spot tiny chunks of lobster meat, which adds a nice texture. Only minor complaint: it’s a little too salty, but nothing a sip of water can’t fix. 🥩 Mains: Steaks Are Overpriced & Bitter (My Red Flag!) We ordered two steaks—both were expensive, had odd textures, and suffered from the same issue: bitter, charred bits from the open-flame grill. Cowboy Steak: Huge portion, so-so execution. It’s big enough for 1.5 people (even for us big eaters!). The medium-rare doneness was mostly on point, though the center was a little too raw. The meat was only 3/5 juicy, and the red wine reduction sauce (3.5/5) helped, but the uneven cooking (2/5) ruined it—charred parts tasted bitter, and the rest was just “meh.” Edible, but not worth the price. NY Strip: Weird texture, lacking flavor. The meat was loose and mushy (not the firm, hearty bite I love in NY strip)—2/5 for flavor, 1/5 for juiciness. Thank goodness for the garlic-based sauce (3.6/5): smooth, slightly oily, and it saved the steak from being totally bland. The bitterness here was milder than the cowboy steak, but still noticeable. 🥦 Side: Fried Asparagus – Basic & Greasy Just… average. The asparagus was lightly seared (felt like they barely cooked it) and drowning in oil. No extra seasoning, no charred flavor—just plain, greasy veggies. A total afterthought. 🍰 Desserts: Big Portions, Way Too Sweet Both desserts were massive but cloyingly sweet—even the “tangy” additions couldn’t fix it: Mystery Dessert (Forgot the Name): Same issue—huge portion, way too sweet and rich. I barely remember it because it was so unremarkable (and tooth-achingly sugary). 🌟 Vibe & Service: Great for Dates, Loud When Busy Atmosphere: Perfect for dates—fancy, spacious, and the basement tea area is cute. But by 8 PM, the first floor is packed and loud—no privacy, and you have to yell to talk. Service: 10/10. Even with tons of waitstaff, they were patient—answered all my questions about the menu, handled requests quickly, and even gave us two free chocolate truffles (a nice touch!). 💰 Final Verdict: Go for the Date Vibe, Skip the Steaks It’s overpriced for the food quality, but the atmosphere makes it a decent date spot. I’d only come back to try non-steak dishes (maybe seafood or pasta)—the steaks were a letdown, and the desserts were too sweet. If you’re craving a fancy night out with someone special, it works—but don’t expect mind-blowing food. #UniversityOfMichiganAnnArbor #AnnArborFood #AnnArbor #UpscaleDining #DateNightSpots #MichiganFood #SteakDinner
