Annaburg The Seoul 9.5/10 (Highly recommended!)

The Seoul (Ann Arbor): Pig Belly, Jajiangmyun & Soup That Crushed My Pork Fear 🐷 I had lunch at The Seoul (downtown Ann Arbor) today, and it was so good—I’m already plotting my next visit! From bossam that made me forget my years-long hesitation about American pork to jajiangmyun that even a non-fan devoured, this spot might just be my new favorite Korean eatery in town. Let’s break down every delicious bite (plus why it might even top Tomukun!): 🥩 Bossam (Pork Belly) – 10/10, Pork Fear Conquered! Flavor & Texture: Chef’s kiss! This dish single-handedly got rid of my years of nervousness about American pork—zero weird gamey taste, just pure, juicy meaty goodness. The pork is boiled first, then seared to crispy perfection—even eating it plain (no sauce!) is amazing. Pairings: It comes with pickled radish (the MVP!), bellflower roots, and dipping sauce. Wrap the pork with the radish—crunchy, tangy, and savory all in one bite. I even peeled a few garlic cloves to add—next-level deliciousness 😋! Price: $26. It’s a little pricey, and I finished the whole thing in one meal… but it’s 100% worth it. I’ll order this every time I go. 🍜 Jajiangmyun (Black Bean Noodles) – Even Non-Fans Will Love It! Sauce: The black bean sauce is sweet, savory, and packed with umami—no bitter aftertaste, just rich flavor. There are tons of veggies in the sauce too (carrots, zucchini, etc.)—adds crunch and freshness. Noodles: Regular wheat noodles, but they held up so well even when I took leftovers home (no mushy mess, probably because I didn’t wait long to eat them). Value: $14. So much sauce and noodles—I’m not a fan of Korean jajiangmyun usually, but I ate every bite and still wanted more. Total steal ✨! 🍲 Dinner Combo & Soups – Perfect for Sharing (or Post-Workout!) **Dinner Combo ($26)**: Such a great deal if you want variety! You get grilled meat + soup, and adding galbi (beef short ribs) is only $5 extra. The short ribs are insane—they debone them for you, so no messy bones or chewy bits. I tried kimchi jjigae (spicy kimchi soup) and haemul jjigae (seafood soup)—both tasty, but the kimchi soup was super spicy (I was sniffling nonstop! 😂). Kalbi Soup ($18): My post-workout go-to! I’ve gotten this packed to-go multiple times—no oil, light and refreshing, with tons of tender beef (it falls off the bone!) and egg drop. It’s a little salty (I add water sometimes), but it’s perfect with rice. Great value for the portion! 🍚 Free Extras: Purple Rice & Random (But Delicious) Banchan Purple Rice: So fluffy and fragrant—way better than plain white rice. Banchan (Side Dishes): They’re free and random, but the standout was the broccoli salad (in the corner of my pic)! Crunchy, salty, and no weird “broccoli smell” (I hate that sometimes!). The fish cake was good too—always a nice touch. 📝 Final Verdict: My New Favorite Korean Spot! The Seoul is easy to get to (downtown location = convenient!) and consistently delicious. I’ve only tried a few Korean places in Ann Arbor, but this one beats most—even my wife’s beloved Tomukun (shhh, don’t tell her yet!). I haven’t tried their grilled meat yet, but I’m bringing her next time to settle the “Tomukun vs. The Seoul” debate. Oh, and they have samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup)—I’m grabbing that after my next workout! 100% recommend—add this to your Ann Arbor food list ASAP! #DailyEats #Foodie #AnnArbor #UniversityOfMichiganAnnArbor #AnnArborFood #AnnArborFoodHunt #KoreanFood #SeoulAnnArbor
