Autumn Escape to Cold Spring ⛰️
November 3, 2025 — Took the Bull Hill Short Loop trail in the charming upstate town of Cold Spring, a perfect car-free day trip from NYC! Just 70 minutes from Harlem-125th St by train, this hike offers stunning fall views without needing a car. The foliage won’t stay red for long—so don’t wait too long to catch the colors! 🍁🍂 The town itself is small and tidy, with one main street perfect for a stroll before or after your hike. Since it gets dark early this season, start your trek as early as possible. From the Cold Spring station, navigate to Little Stony Point—look for the small wooden gate with two bear carvings (a clear landmark near the trailhead!). The Short Loop takes about 3–4 hours with stops for photos. Trail markers are incredibly clear—white arrows, yellow arrows, and red ropes guide you all the way (thoughtfully designed to stand out against the autumn leaves 🎨). The first third of the trail consists of rocky, uneven paths but rewards you with breathtaking views of the upper Hudson River (photo spots are plentiful!). Take your time here—it’s the most scenic part. Reach the large rock at the peak (marked by a sharp 180° turn on AllTrails) to complete the climb. While the maple trees at the summit have already lost their leaves, the second half of the trail treats you to golden maple forests 🌟🍂 and gentler terrain, marked by red ropes this time. 📲 Apps to Use: Traintime for booking tickets AllTrails for navigation (though the trail is well-marked!) 🧳 What to Bring: Snacks, water, and good hiking shoes. Note: No restrooms on the trail. Escaping the city for a day surrounded by rustling leaves and crisp autumn air was pure joy. Turn up the volume and listen to the symphony of the forest! 🎶🍃 #ColdSpring #NYCHiking #AutumnInNY #CarFreeTravel #FallFoliage #UpstateNY #DayTrip #NatureEscape #HudsonValley
