Trail Series, Part 29 Recommended to us by @xjoey74 (Henry’s Take Senior Field Correspondent), the “Cold Spring Harbor Trail” can be found on Long Island (about an hour outside of Manhattan). While that location may seem a little remote for some travelers, we found the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to be incredibly convenient out of Penn Station in Manhattan.

This is an out and back trail covering approximately 2 1/4 miles and features a rolling terrain that earns its reputation as being moderate in difficulty. While accomplished mountain bikers might be able to navigate its challenges, this trail is best enjoyed by hikers and runners. We’d recommend that those with mobility issues set their sights on a different adventure.

The thick canopy of trees provides outstanding shade throughout and a variety of birds provide a cacophony of sounds to serenade you during your journey.

There is additional wildlife to enjoy in the form of (seemingly) floating worms descending upon their silk threads to hunt 😳 (uh, I mean greet) you. Also (and we couldn’t be certain because the photo was a little blurry), but we may have just captured the most recent sighting of big foot! 👣

You should be sure to inspect yourself (and those in your group) for ticks at the conclusion of your adventure to ensure that you aren’t packing them out with you as souvenirs (fact).

BTW. Does anyone out there know if Sophie said yes to her prom invite? 🤷‍♂️

And that’s…Henry’s Take.

Cold Spring Harbor State Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, though it may not cater to young children. The mile-long hike, while rewarding, can be strenuous for those not in top physical condition, so it's wise to bring ample water to stay hydrated. Additionally, wearing sturdy shoes is crucial as the terrain can be rugged and may cause discomfort otherwise.

The park's landscape is its crowning glory, boasting breathtaking vistas of wooded trails, serene ponds, and glimpses of local wildlife. It's an ideal setting for deep conversations and introspection, providing a tranquil environment conducive to heartfelt talks and bonding moments with loved ones.

For families, Cold Spring Harbor State Park offers a perfect blend of leisure and exercise. Whether you're exploring the trails, picnicking by the pond, or simply enjoying the natural surroundings, it provides a refreshing getaway without the need for extensive travel. It's a place where you can rejuvenate your spirits and reconnect with nature, all within a short distance from home.

In summary, while it may not be suited for young children due to the challenging hike, Cold Spring Harbor State Park is a gem for those seeking scenic beauty, family time, and a peaceful escape in the heart of nature.

I’ll take some pics next time and update...

Its a nice place and trail really is nice for a good work out. Didn't like that some people that were running had no courtesy. We were walking as the trails are really hilly plus has lot of little rocks, and we witnessed a couple of people falling. Anyway they were rude she almost hit me didn't give me heads up she was coming behind me. Also the parking lot some people were nice but others not much. One couple was outside talking to other people blocking us from getting out for like 5 minutes. Till I got out of the car and was like come on no consideration. They still asked for us to wait for them to finish socializing while blocking us from leaving. I really was upset. But overall the place is nice but some crow dont have a good culture. Restaurants around the park are close by and nice to walk around we spend aome time in the town shopping and eating. It's really nice town and had an amazing...
