Autumn Weekend Escape Plan - Deep in the Woods, Deers in Sight 🦌
On a deep autumn weekend, I embarked on a spontaneous trip. Having visited Copenhagen multiple times, I must once again thank @VisitDenmark and @Mafengwo for the invitation to experience a different kind of travel amidst the Nordic autumn scenery. For those traveling to Denmark or living here, besides exploring Copenhagen itself, there are many lesser-known but fun destinations to recommend in the surrounding areas. Today, I’m recommending the Royal Deer Park Jægersborg Dyrehave to the north of Copenhagen! 🦌 It’s a great choice for families who love animals or have children. 🦌 Getting There: If the deer park is your first stop in Copenhagen, renting a car is recommended. It’s about a 50-minute drive from the airport. If you’re starting from the city center, take the train from Central Station to Klampenborg St., and you’ll reach the southern entrance of the deer park shortly after getting off. 🦌 About the Deer Park: I drove to the entrance near the海边 on the east side, where there’s a free parking lot (P-plads Eremitagesletten). From there, I walked into the deer park. This 1000-hectare woodland was a large hunting ground for the Danish royal family in the 1650s, so deer have been free-ranging here. Now, about 2400 deers call this place home. Although it’s officially a deer park, many locals come here for outdoor activities. Nordic people persist in cycling, running, and family outings all year round. Here, you can also experience traditional horse-drawn carriage rides, all while sharing the space with the deers, truly immersing yourself in nature. 🦌 Deer Safety: The forest is vast, but it’s easy to spot herds of deers. They usually maintain a safe distance from humans. If you get closer, they’ll run away, so there’s no need to worry about them attacking. The park prohibits feeding the deers, possibly because they still retain a wild streak and it’s difficult to get close to them. For safety, it’s best to admire them from a distance. 🦌 What Else to Do: If you don’t want to walk too much, I suggest renting a bike at Klampenborg St. train station, which is right next to the deer park. Finding a bike in Denmark is never a hassle. Exercise a bit, breathe in the fresh air, and let your mind wander in the afternoon. There’s also a romantic little castle in the park - Erimitage Slottet, which belongs to the Danish royal family and is worth a visit. Families with children can also visit the nearby Bakken amusement park after exploring the deer park. Due to word count limits, I’ll share two more hidden gems in the next post. #Denmark #DenmarkTravel #DenmarkTravelGuide #CityEscapePlan #SellingAutumn #DenmarkHiddenSpots #RoyalDeerPark #CopenhagenDeerPark #AutumnCheckIn #WeekendGetaway #DeersInSight
