Bay Area Tide Pooling | Davenport Waterfall | Caves | Viral Swing

This weekend was perfect for tide pooling! If you love this kind of outdoor fun, tomorrow’s still a great day to go. We chose Davenport for our adventure, and the haul (and discoveries!) were amazing—we explored caves big and small, found a mysterious tunnel cave, and checked out the viral swing and waterfall. (Sadly), the swing is already gone… but the fun didn’t stop there! 🌊🌊 Davenport Landing Beach — Mysterious Caves Address: 335 Davenport Landing Rd, Davenport, CA 95017 Parking: Free street parking 🅿️ Amenities: Restrooms available 🚻 This beach is a surfer’s paradise—and our “lucky beach” too! Last year, we spotted a stranded seal here; today, we found hidden caves. Right in front of the beach, there are picnic tables and swings (great for a post-tide-pooling snack), and a shallow stream flows into the ocean—perfect for little kids to splash around in 👶. The beach itself isn’t huge, but it’s ideal for tide pooling. There’s a big tide pool area where we found sea anemones, starfish, small fish, abalones, and crabs 🦀. On both sides of the beach, tall cliffs rise up—years of waves crashing and eroding the rock have created all kinds of small caves, and low tide makes them extra easy (and safe!) for kids to explore. Today, the kids counted 14 caves total—how cool is that? 🤩 Big Surprise: The Hidden Tunnel Cave! Here’s the best part: At the northern end of the beach (walk right along the cliff until you can’t go further), we found a tunnel cave! Walk through it, and you’ll reach a tiny, secret beach—totally stunning. ⚠️ Important note: This tunnel is invisible most of the time—it only shows up and is passable during extreme low tide. If you can’t find it, don’t worry—it’s just covered by seawater! ❤️ Bonus Spots Nearby Right next to Davenport Landing Beach: American Abalone Farms (a seafood spot—great for grabbing fresh eats after your adventure). To the north: Swanton Berry Farm (perfect for picking fresh berries if you have extra time!). 🌊🌊 Davenport Pier — Viral Swing & Waterfall Address: 9812 Cabrillo Hwy, Davenport, CA 95017 Parking: Free street parking 🅿️ Amenities: No restrooms 🚫 This is the beach where the viral “ocean swing” used to be—just 1.4 miles south of Davenport Landing Beach. ⚠️ Heads up: The path down to the beach is on the cliffside—steep, rocky, and slippery. It’s not for everyone, so take it slow if you go! The bad news: The viral swing is gone—only two metal “frames” are left 😂. But the good news? The views are still incredible! On the southern side of the beach, a stream cuts through the cliff wall and flows into the ocean, forming a small waterfall 💦. On the northern side, there are more small caves to explore. Up on the cliff, there’s a little grove of cypress trees that forms a tiny “cypress tunnel”—super photogenic! ‼️ Check out my latest video for a closer look at all this! #BayAreaWeekendGuide #BayAreaFamilyOutings #TidePooling #BayAreaWeekend #BayAreaKidFriendlySpots #BayAreaWeekendWithKids
