Beautiful churches are often hidden in the midst of a bustling city.
🏠The Naples Cathedral, officially known as La basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, is the most important church in the southern Italian city of Naples and the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Naples. It is dedicated to the city's patron saint, Saint Januarius. The church preserves the blood of Saint Januarius, and the "Miracle of Saint Januarius" is held on the first Saturday of May and September 19th each year, when it is said that the saint's coagulated and dried blood turns back into a liquid. 🏠The construction of this church was ordered by King Charles I of Naples, and his successor, Charles II of Naples (1285-1309), continued the construction of the church. It was not completed until the early 14th century under the rule of Robert of Naples. The church is built on the foundations of two ancient Christian basilicas, traces of which are still clearly visible today. Underneath the church, Greek and Roman artifacts have been excavated. 🏠Personally, I feel that the public safety and urban operation in Naples are quite concerning, and the sanitary conditions are also not optimistic. However, it does preserve a large number of cultural and artistic treasures scattered throughout the city, becoming important clues that string together the city's history. #HistoricalArchitecture #CulturalLandscapes #TravelTheWorld #ArchitecturalPhotography #TiltShiftPhotography #Naples #OlympusEM10 #ArchitecturalHeritage #Italy
