🐝 Beekeeping Adventure at River District Apiary 🍯

This Tuesday's beekeeping tour with the kids was WAY more fun than expected! What we thought would be a simple honey-tasting turned into a fully immersive nature science class! 👀 About This Apiary: Established in 2019 by Wesgroup, these bees buzz between community gardens and green spaces, boosting plant health and ecosystem balance 🌿. For 5 years, beekeeper Janet nurtured them (even bred local queens!) before passing the torch to new keeper Jane Lakes. 📊 Cool Bee Facts: • 16 colonies (each with 60,000 bees!) • 16 queen bees ruling their hives 👑 • 80lbs of honey per colony/year! • Pollinating 12.6 sq km of plants ✨ Tour Highlights: • Safe up-close hive viewing (with protective screens) • Meet the queen, workers & drones • Learn honey-making & comb-building • Touch beeswax & sniff fresh honeycomb • Fresh honey tasting 🍯 (kids' favorite!) ⚠️ Heads Up: • This was the second-last tour of 2024 (last one next Tuesday) • New location: 200m east of old Google Maps pin, near Boundary Rd (temporary parking available) • Buy their wildflower honey at Ardea Presentation Centre! Perfect for curious little explorers—mark your calendars for next year's tours! #VancouverKids #NatureEducation #BeeTheChange #FamilyFun #SustainableLiving
