Berlin’s Grace | Siegessäule
The Victory Column (Siegessäule), located in Berlin, Germany, was first built in 1864 to commemorate Prussia’s victories in the Second Schleswig War (as well as the subsequent Austro-Prussian War and Franco-Prussian War) 🎖️. Berlin is a city steeped in historical memory. Here, I walked past the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, visited the former SS Headquarters, checked out Checkpoint Charlie, and stood at the Berlin Wall ruins—a symbol of division and reunification. Every corner carries the profound historical thread from WWII to the Cold War, leaving me deeply moved 🕯️. Atop its granite base stands the majestic figure of Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. With her right hand stretched forward, holding a laurel wreath high, her wings spread backward, and her robes fluttering in the wind, her graceful silhouette overlooks the entire city of Berlin 🏛️. #Berlin #Europe #ArtHistory #Art #AestheticAppreciation #Sculpture #AncientRome #Mythology #AncientGreece #AestheticAccumulation
