Berlin | First Time Trying Duck Laab 🦆

🥗Charme Thai Bistro truly lives up to its name as a quaint bistro on the street, situated in the upscale Helmholzkiez, yet with an overall style and pricing that are quite approachable. Inside, there are only three or four tables, and takeaway delivery personnel are constantly coming and going, using enamelware. Naturally, it doesn't have the extensive dishes of its neighbor tossanka. In an era where northern dumplings cost over 25, a price point around 20 in Prenzlauer Berg is a choice with good value for money. 🥗▪️ Duck Salad: I wanted to try the Isaan region's duck laab (laap) after reading the Thai cookbook "Pok Pok," and this is indeed the first Thai restaurant in Berlin where I've found it. However, it's clearly made with German supermarket duck, so the skin is thick and the meat is fatty; in my imagination, it should be leaner and cut more finely. 🥗▫️ Khao Mai Gai: Recommended, the Thai version of Hainanese chicken rice. The rice is oily and moist, the chicken is tender and juicy, and it comes with a bowl of chicken soup on the side, offering three ways to enjoy the chicken, which is great. Looking at its history, it was brought to Thailand by Hainanese immigrants, and the difference from the Hainanese chicken rice we know is that the former is served with pickled chili and soybean sauce, while the latter is served with ginger and garlic sauce. 🥗▪️ Other dishes: The fish cake has a red curry flavor, served with peanut sauce, which goes well with the tom yum soup. Average cost per person: 20 euros #BerlinLife #BerlinFoodExploration #BerlinCuisine #GermanLife
