Berlin Diary | I Went There for the Ceviche!

As the weather gets hotter, I always crave something sour, spicy, and refreshing. When it comes to Peruvian cuisine and ceviche, many online recommendations point to Rocoto and Sabor. This time, I managed to get a reservation at Sabor, located near U9 Berliner Strasse station. I've tried many versions of ceviche, and the one in Iraklion still holds the top spot in my heart—it's hard to beat! The ideal texture for ceviche is tender, smooth, and refreshing, with a perfect balance of sourness, spiciness, and a touch of saltiness. It should also have a nice crunch from onions or other vegetables. But, let's be real—Berlin is not exactly a coastal city, and the quality here was just okay. The main issue was that the fish wasn't fresh enough; it had a starchy texture and the flavors were a bit flat. Traditional Peruvian ceviche shouldn't have a starchy feel, but I know some regional variations or personal chef styles might include this, so I won't hold it against them. ‼️‼️ Overall: I went there for the ceviche, but it didn't meet my standards for deliciousness. ☹️‼️‼️ 👉 The fried seafood wasn't freshly made; it felt like it had been sitting around for a while before being refried. 👉 The braised lamb leg was quite soft. Since I rarely eat lamb, I can't really judge, but the lamb flavor was a bit too strong for me. 👉 The seafood soup was similar to the ceviche—drinkable, but not so amazing that I'd crave it. 👉 I tried the recommended purple corn-based drink, Chicha Morada, and I liked it. It tasted like plum juice with a hint of cinnamon. It would be perfect with some ice! 🥤 I'm still hoping to check out Rocoto and give ceviche another try. Maybe it'll be better! I really do love raw fish! 🐟 🇵🇪🐟 Sabor Latino 🇵🇪 Average cost per person: 31€. Not the best value for money. #BerlinDiary #PeruvianCuisine #Ceviche #GlobalFoodieContest #HiddenGems #SouthAmericanFood #LatinFood #CevicheLover
