Berlin Diary | Wolf's Iron Pot Stew đŸș

A hungry wolf đŸș trekked through mountains and rivers on a strike day to charge into the newly opened Chinese restaurant. I’ve heard that the Northeastern cuisine is super authentic, and I’ve never been here since it opened. As soon as I sat down, without even glancing at the menu, I said with a drool emoji 😋, “I’ll have the iron pot stew, pork stew with glass noodles,” “and some smoked fish,” “What else do you recommend?” The owner was taken aback 😂 and said, “Why don’t you wait a bit? One iron pot stew will be more than enough for two of you.” “Smoked fish, okay, but the iron pot stew is quite a lot.” “Pork stew... maybe skip that for now, the iron pot stew is really filling.” I was like, “Girl, I’m starving, but I’ll listen to advice!” One iron pot stew is as big as my washbasin. I’ve never had authentic Northeastern cuisine before and was really craving the corn pancakes. I was wondering what they taste like. It’s truly a “big portion, filling” dish. There were even fried dough sticks and celery in it, which I didn’t expect. But for someone with a heavy taste preference like me, it was a bit bland. (The restaurant had chili oil 😂, but I restrained myself and didn’t use it!) The Shanghai-style smoked fish was tasty, but it felt like it wasn’t marinated long enough. It was overcooked and a bit fishy due to insufficient time. The waitress was so considerate, introducing everything. The pork ribs were tender, but the seasoning had that authentic Northeastern farmhouse flavor, which is quite different from Sichuan or Hunan cuisine. It was quite a novel experience for me, being my first time trying it. I also took away a portion of General’s Chicken Rice (what even is General’s Chicken?). Update: I ate the takeaway today, and this dish was pretty average. 🍗🍗 Lulu's China Restaurant 🍗 Average cost: 25-30 euros. The portions are huge; two of us couldn’t finish and had to take some home. #BerlinDiary #BerlinDaily #NoFussEating #IronPotStew #EarthlingFoodReviewContest #AsianInstitute #Euro-AustralianBay
