I’ve always heard about the breathtaking mountains and ocean views of Northern California. Driving down Highway 1, after passing Monterey, you’ll first reach the iconic Bixby Creek Bridge 🌉—a perfect spot to catch the sunset. Continuing south, you’ll come across a beach where the seawater and minerals create a magical chemical reaction, turning the sand purple 💜. If you visit during winter evenings (November to January), you might even witness the "Golden Light Piercing" phenomenon—where the sunset rays shine through a hole in the rocky cliffs (as shown in the fifth photo). ⚠️ Heads up: the road here can be tricky to navigate, so drive carefully and watch for oncoming traffic. A bit further down, you’ll reach one of the most stunning stops before the Highway 1 closure: McWay Falls 🌊. An 80-foot waterfall cascades directly into the turquoise ocean.
