Campsites with a direct river access or larger secluded spaces are called Premium campsites. There was nature talk on Saturday night after dark by a ranger and a contained campfire provided where attendees could bring their own marshmallow to roast (roasting sticks are provided).
Due to the large campground, you will encounter some less courteous (experienced) campers who might be very loud in the evening past the quiet hours (9 pm). Which case either letting them know on your own about quiet hour rules or contact camp host. Many campers who stay in this campsite has a long day of driving next day or planned a long hike next day, so being quiet at night for good rest are important for everyone.
Coin-operated showers are available in a few bathroom/shower stations throughout the campgrounds. A laundromat and a camp store are located in South Camp (only accessible for campers with a campsite reservation).

If you see photos of beautiful beaches within this state park reviews, that's NOT Pfeiffer big sur state park. The beach is most likely from Pfeiffer Beach which is not a part of state park and the $12 beach access and parking control is done by Parks Management Company for the Forest Service which is not a CA state park agency. And It's simply not worth trying to go to the beach on a busy summer weekend. If you see a photo of a beautiful beach under this parkโs review, thatโs NOT a photo of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Thatโs another park (regional park?), which is most likely Pfeiffer Beach (different agency run) and itโs closed...
ย ย ย Read moreRegarding the nature, this was the best camping experience I've had so far. I would give five stars if I weren't disturbed by some immature campers there. I camped at the hike-bike campsite for two nights. That's the max amount of nights a hiker/biker can stay, after which you need to leave for 48 hours before returning. Alternatively, you can also switch to a standard site for $35/night on the third night.
There was a crazy guy at the campsite on the first night. He was talking nonstop and easily irritated. When he returned to the campsite at 9.30 pm, he started cursing everyone. One of the bikers called 911 twice. By the time the police arrived, he already quieted down and fell asleep, so they didn't want to create another drama by waking him up. Then at 1.45 am, I woke up to extremely loud Bollywood music. I walked to the site located across the road from the hike-bike campsite and saw a bunch of young kids partying. They were apparently intoxicated. I approached them quietly and sat down on the bench next to the person who was attending the fire because he seemed to be the soberest person there. I talked to them, and they apologized, albeit still drunk and trying to invite me to join them. After that I went back to sleep, they turned off the music but kept talking loud for another good 20 minutes before eventually quieting down. The next morning I woke up early, but they were already gone. I guess they might have left at 3 am after partying. They left the picnic table covered with garbage.
It's sad to see immature people disturbing others at this beautiful place. Pfeiffer itself is an incredibly beautiful place to enjoy the nature. The next day was much more peaceful. I spent 3 hours hiking on the Buzzards Roost Trail. The view is spectacular.
There're running water, hot shower and power outlet outside of the bathroom. The bathroom is pretty clean. Shower uses tokens, $1 for each token, which lasts 3.5 minutes. You can only purchase the token with paper bills, $1/5/10, not quarters. Firewood is $10 a bundle available at the entrance. There's a fire starter inside.
There's a general store at the Big Sur Lodge where you can purchase food. It's slightly more expensive than Whole Foods. Not the ideal place to stock up but enough to get by. They even...
