Brühl Augustusburg Palace Near Cologne 🌳🏰
Brühl, located just outside Cologne, is a perfect destination for a weekend day trip! Augustusburg Palace is often considered a miniature version of the Palace of Versailles. This 18th-century Rococo-style building, which served as the residence of the Cologne Elector and Archbishop, is lavish and impressive inside. ✨ I highly recommend not being stingy with the €9.50 entrance fee for adults. The one-hour guided tour is delightful, featuring a charming young guide who presents in both English and German, along with an audio guide. There are currently about 20 rooms open for exploration. 🎤 The queue for grouping is quick, with about 20 people per group. Once there are enough people, the group is formed for a collective tour. Each room has a digital code that you can enter into the audio guide to hear the explanations. In the hot summer weather, you can stroll through the gardens first before entering the palace for the tour. ☀️ If time permits, there's also the Max Ernst Museum next to the palace, part of the Brühl Rhineland Regional Association. I’m quite interested in his works related to the Dada movement and Surrealism. 🎨 Unfortunately, I came with my elderly family members who weren't interested, so I couldn't visit this time. I must come back again! For lunch, we dined in a lovely Italian restaurant on the pedestrian street behind the palace, which was quite delicious and reasonably priced—a must-try! 🍝 #Germany #GermanAttractions #WeekendGetaways
