Buffalo, NY|An Izakaya in Downtown

Buffalo, NY|An Izakaya in Downtown: A Warm Culinary Comfort 🏮 Buffalo's Downtown often feels quietly, almost "desolately" calm even during the day, with few pedestrians on the streets—a far cry from the bustling cityscape one might imagine. 🌆 Yet, it's precisely in this setting that some small, lovely treasure restaurants are hidden, waiting to be discovered. Recently, after being "bombarded" by photos of Mr. Xu enjoying yakitori and Japanese cuisine back home, my craving for Japanese food was utterly ignited! So, seizing a chance to go downtown, I decided to check out an izakaya, hoping to find that warmth and comfort belonging to the night. 🍶 The izakaya is small, with dim, warm lighting. Wooden tables and chairs and Japanese posters on the walls create an authentic vibe. The menu is more varied than expected, covering yakitori, ramen, and various small dishes. A small hiccup: my friend forgot their ID, so we regrettably had to miss out on sake and beer, focusing solely on the food. 🍢 Total for two: $56.55 (including a $5 cash tip). Given today's prices, this is incredibly affordable! 🍢 Yakitori Set|🌟🌟🌟⭐️ To try a variety at once, we ordered the yakitori set for $15. Kushiyaki Steak: Slightly disappointing. The meat was a bit tough and the seasoning overly salty, lacking tenderness and juiciness. Bacon Wrapped Scallop: The surprise of the meal! We initially thought it was wrapped around an egg, but biting in revealed a sweet, fresh scallop. The salty savor of the bacon perfectly melded with the scallop's sweetness, offering rich layers of texture—highly recommended! Pork Belly & Wakadori (young chicken): The MVPs of the platter! The pork belly was grilled to a fragrant crisp, rich but not greasy; the young chicken was tender and juicy, cooked just right. If I return, I'd order these two individually. 🍜 Ramen Showdown: Miso vs. Classic Miso Ramen|🌟🌟🌟🌟 My friend's order was unexpectedly delicious! The broth had a very rich, deep miso flavor, perfectly savory. The shiitake mushrooms inside seemed to be pan-fried in butter, carrying a unique milky aroma that enhanced the whole bowl. It's the kind of warmth that makes you happy with one sip on a winter day. Sato Ramen (Classic)|🌟🌟 As the house classic, I wouldn't personally recommend it. The main reason was the three thick slices of rather dry, tough chicken breast, which instantly halved my appetite. The broth also seemed plainer compared to the miso version. 💡 Overall Impression & Tips: This is a great little spot with good value and the right atmosphere. The dishes overall lean towards the salty side (perhaps to accompany drinks?). If you prefer lighter flavors, you might mention it when ordering. In Buffalo's not-so-vast Japanese food landscape, it offers a nice,(lively) option to satisfy cravings. Especially on a cold night, stepping into this little shop filled with warm light, ordering a few skewers, and having a bowl of hot soup can dispel much of the loneliness of being far from home. For friends in Buffalo missing Japanese food, it's worth a try. After all, discovering a small oasis in a "food desert" is a happy thing in itself! 😊 #Izakaya#Food#NorthAmericanFood#BuffaloFood#Buffalo#Yakitori#Ramen#AffordableJapaneseFood#FoodCheckIn
