Canada, Plans to Procure LRV Trains 🏟🔧🚆
In February 2025, the City of Edmonton approved three suppliers—CAF, Hyundai Rotem, and Siemens Mobility—to participate in the tender for Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) procurement. The city aims to purchase approximately 53 LRVs to replace some of the U2-type trains that have been in operation for over 40 years, thereby meeting growing transportation demands. 🎈🥳 🌸The tender results are expected to be announced by the end of 2025. In 2021, Hyundai Rotem won a bid to supply 40 LRVs, which are scheduled for delivery in 2025. 🌸As the provincial capital, Edmonton currently operates three rail lines: the Capital Line, Metro Line, and Valley Line. 🤷😕 The rolling stock includes models such as the Siemens/DüWag U2, Siemens SD160, and Bombardier Flexity Freedom.🚶♂️📸 DüWag, a company renowned for its outstanding design and technology in the 20th century, produced rail vehicles that were widely used in urban rail systems across many European cities.🌟😒 The company was later acquired by Siemens. Its iconic products, including the GT6 and GT8 series, are still in service in some cities today. 🚇🏭🌍 #DayTrip #OutAndAbout #EdmontonAdventures 🌆
