Century-old Cafe Reichard ☕🍰

As soon as I got off the train, I was struck by the towering, Baroque-style Cologne Cathedral. I think it's probably because there are no high-rise buildings around, creating a visual contrast that gives a shock to the eyes. The world-famous Cologne Cathedral Christmas market is right at the foot of the cathedral, and across the street is the century-old Cafe Reichard, with its elegant and noble exterior decoration. Two shivering sisters, drenched in the heavy rain, took refuge in this bustling coffee shop. To enjoy the cathedral while eating in the rain, we chose a spot by the glass corridor near the entrance. The constant flow of people in and out, and the opening and closing of the glass door behind us, made me put on my coat obediently. After we sat down, we ordered two cups of black tea, a slice of Black Forest cake, and a multi-berry cake (I named it). Reviews of this shop online are mixed, but after tasting Black Forest cakes in Heidelberg, Frankfurt, and Rothenburg, I think theirs is the best. The Black Forest cakes I've had in Germany all have a layer of cookie crust at the bottom, adding a rich texture to the soft cake. The special feature of this Black Forest cake is the fragrant dark chocolate cake base and chocolate crumbs, with cherries marinated in alcohol inside, which you can taste the aroma of the alcohol and the enhanced cherry fruit fragrance. The softness of the cherry flesh is just right, not as mushy as canned cherries, but retaining the toughness of the fruit. The berry cake is sweet and sour and delicious. The sweetness of both cakes is just right for me. #Germany #GermanFood #Cologne #CologneCathedral #CologneFood #Dessert #Cake #BlackForestCake
