City Creek Center – Where Urban Design Meets Nature’s Grandeur 🏙️

City Creek Center is a benchmark commercial project by my former firm SWA. I used to drop high-res images of it into presentations whenever possible. During my stop in Salt Lake City in 2023, I made a point to visit. Even after over a decade since its opening, it remains elegant and timeless—though a sunny day would’ve made it even better! ☀️ When people think of Salt Lake City, the first thing that often comes to mind is the Mormon Church. Interestingly, the main developer behind this project is a company held by the Church. Located right across from the iconic Salt Lake Temple, its central location is undeniable. 🌊 What sets urban renewal/commercial projects led by the Church as the client is their restrained yet luxurious vibe—natural, without overly flashy visual elements. The structure is clear: a creek flows through two blocks, transitioning between indoor and outdoor spaces. It cascades into waterfalls where there’s elevation change and transforms into water features in atriums. 💧 Highlights: ✨ • Open atrium water features and meticulous details ✨ • Richard St entrance with great spatial ambiance ✨ • Indoor creek winding through the complex ✨ • Outdoor waterfalls and flowing streams ✨ • Thoughtful paving details ✨ • Water features along S Temple St (though some slight efflorescence is visible) #ArtInDesign #LandscapeCaseStudy #DesignAesthetics #SpatialDesign #ArchitecturalTravel #SaltLakeCity #WaterFeatures #DetailDesign #CommercialLandscape
