City Walk | A Day of Learning in Mainz, Germany 🇩🇪📚
Mainz, the capital of Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate, sits where the Main River meets the Rhine, facing Wiesbaden across the water. 🚗 Parking Woes & Surprises The riverside parking only allowed 1 hour, so we ended up in a Parkhaus further away. Today was Maria Himmelfahrt (Assumption Day)—we thought all of Germany would be closed, but the streets were lively! Stumbled upon the weekly market (Wochenmarkt) in the cathedral square, bought some fresh berries, and enjoyed them on a bench. 🚢 Floating Science Center A mobile science exhibit on a repurposed coal barge was docked at the harbor. Since May, it’s sailed from Berlin through Germany’s waterways, bringing a cosmos-themed exhibition for students. After a quick visit, we treated ourselves to ice cream—pure bliss! 🍦 📚 Bookstore & University Vibes • Browsed a chain bookstore (yes, Germany has study guides—who knew?). • Gutenberg Museum was a rain-shortened visit—this one requires homework! • Johannes Gutenberg University offered a peek into campus life: A lecture on postcolonial imagery & linguistic discrimination (fascinating but way over my head). Teacher training workshops, PR/marketing courses (with certificates!). A philosophy lecture on "Fundamental Questions of Scientific Reflection." Climate crisis talks, emotional intelligence workshops, and even a choir performance! Solar-powered benches with USB ports—our tired "study group" perked up instantly! 🔋 #GermanyTravel #CityWalk #Mainz #LearningJourney
