Colmar Delights | Braised Pork Knuckle Hits the Spot
After being turned away multiple times due to lack of reservation, I stumbled upon this place filled with locals, including many elderly diners, where I could just walk in and try their amazing pork knuckle. It felt like I hit the jackpot! 🍖🎉 📍 Le Fer Rouge A very distinctive red building that's open all week from 12:00 to 22:00. There are plenty of seats, both indoors and outdoors, so you rarely have to wait in line or make a reservation. 🏡 Entrée (Appetizer): Snail Salad (Salades d’escargot): There are 12 snails in this salad. Since it's a salad, the flavor is a bit lighter. 🐌 Plats (Main Courses): - Fleischnakas : A traditional Alsatian dish named for its snail-like appearance. It's made with a mixture of pork and beef. It's very homely and the broth is super flavorful. 🍖 - Chicken Roulade (Ballottine de poulet) : A classic French dish where deboned chicken is stuffed with various fillings (herbs, vegetables, mushrooms, etc.), then rolled and tied. The outside is crispy, almost like a fried chicken cutlet 🤣, and it's filled with cheese—perfect for cheese lovers! 🧀 - Braised Pork Knuckle (Jambonneau) : The pork knuckle is so tender and flavorful! The tendons are especially delicious. Unlike the crispy German version, this one is more flavorful and less greasy. I highly recommend this place for their pork knuckle—it's better than anywhere else I've tried! 🍖 Alcool (Drink): Riesling White Wine: The flavor is quite rich. I bet it would make an amazing sangria! 🍷 #France #FrenchTravel #Alsace #AlsaceWine #Colmar #ColmarTravel #ColmarDelights #FrenchCuisine
