🍷D’ Angelo’s | A Cozy Encounter on a Spring Night 🍔
D’Angelo’s Ristorante Italiano sits on the corner of Locust St. I’ve walked by it countless times but never went in—couldn’t find any posts or descriptions about it. 🕵️♂️ It was my friend’s birthday, and we had booked a table at Luna. But the parking spot was too far, and the cold wind was unbearable. On a whim, we pushed open the door to D’Angelo’s. Thank goodness for that Saturday night walk-in, and thank the cold wind for finally making us try this low-key, old-school restaurant. 🥂 🏛️ A Retro and Cozy Italian Eatery The moment you step inside, the old-fashioned decor, photos on the walls, and awards tell you this is a classic Italian restaurant. This very atmosphere used to make me hesitant, fearing it would be overly traditional in both menu and seasoning. But it turned out to be a warm and restrained kind of romance. 💖 📌 Chardonnay We ordered the “sweetest” Chardonnay on recommendation, but it turned out that “sweet” to Italians might mean “dry” to us. Still, it paired well with the food. 🍷 📌 Bread & Garlic Olive Oil The bread had a Melograno vibe, but the homemade garlic olive oil was a delightful surprise. 🥪 📌 Steamed Squid Salad 🦑✨ The standout of the night! I didn’t expect much, as most Italian octopus dishes are either charred or just regular vinaigrette. But this squid was unexpectedly tender, bouncy, and refreshing—I still dream about it. 🌟 📌 Soup of the Day 🥣 Skip it. We only ordered it because we were frozen from the wind. 🍝 Pasta | Beware of the Huge Portions! 📌 Crab Asparagus Linguini (Daily Special) 🦀 Delicious, and the waiter kindly asked if we wanted extra cheese. But the portion was ridiculous—felt like two pounds of pasta! 😂 📌 Meatball Marinara 🍝 The menu boasted “Best Philly Award Winner,” so my friend ordered it to see what the fuss was about. But aside from the generous portion, we couldn’t figure out what made it so special. 🤷♂️ 🍄 Veal with Mushroom & Pepper 🥩 A stark contrast to the pasta portion—so small we thought it was a complimentary side at first. Took us ten minutes to realize it was the main dish. 😅 🍰 Dessert 📌 Tiramisu 🍮 The classic Italian sweetness might be too much for some. Order with caution. 🤔 💡 Summary | A Cozy, Retro Italian Experience Worth Revisiting ✔️ Beware of the massive pasta portions! ✔️ The wine selection is on point; I’ll try more varieties next time. ✔️ Old-school decor but great ambiance—perfect for a warm, lit dinner. #Philadelphia #PhillyRestaurants #PhillyEats #PhillyLife #PhillyNearby #PhillyLiving #PhillyCollegeTown #PhillyFoodie
