Dana Point Delight | Super Popular Brunch Spot! š„§
On Saturday, I drove to LA airport to see my mom off. On the way back, we decided to grab brunch in Dana Point. As a thorough planner, I did some research the day before to find a well-reviewed restaurant nearby. I found this place with a 4.7 Yelp rating and nearly 1,300 reviews. We arrived at 12:30 pm and waited for about 30 minutes. They donāt take online reservations, but the waiter later told us we could call ahead to book a table. š The service at the restaurant was very warm and welcoming. The menu had some unique options. We ordered three coffees, two Duck Hashes (since my mom loves poached eggs), avocado toast, and Warmed Olives as a starter. The dishes had a slight French influence, with several items featuring duck and goat cheese. š The Warmed Olives were fantastic! Warm olive oil, Marcona almonds, and colorful olives drizzled over crispy breadāit was so aromatic and the texture was perfect. š„£ The avocado toast was also pretty good. The avocado was thick and, while the flavor was simple, it was all about celebrating the avocado. The bread had a nice crunch too. However, the Duck Hash, which we were most excited about, was a big disappointment. It was bland and didnāt have much flavor. Even adding more salt didnāt help. š¤ My husband joked, āHow can they make duck so tasteless? How did they manage to make such good ingredients so plain?ā The poached eggs were okay, but the portion was small and not very tasty. The value for money was pretty low. But tastes really do vary. As we were complaining about the Duck Hash, the man next to us asked if we were eating it and said, āItās soooo deliciousā¦ā So, what we didnāt like, others might love. Also, the service was quite slow. We had planned to spend an hour for lunch, but we spent over half an hour just waiting for our food. The waiter even forgot to bring us cutlery! š Even with such a high rating, this restaurant was a bit of a letdown for us.
