Day Trip to Guatapé from Medellín, Colombia

After flying from Bogotá, I arrived in the legendary city of Medellín just in time for its famous Flower Festival 🌸. The festive atmosphere was everywhere! Despite the heat, I was pleasantly surprised by the efficient metro system—completely. With limited time, I quickly booked a day trip to Guatapé and its iconic rock for the next day. Hostel Recommendation: 🏠 Medellin Vibes Hostel Great environment with breakfast included Super friendly staff 7-minute walk to metro (though nightlife is quieter than other hostels) Fun fact: I initially imagined Medellín would be dangerous, but a fellow traveler I met on Xiaohongshu even scouted it for me first—so lucky to meet helpful compatriots abroad! Guatapé Rock (La Piedra del Peñol): 📍 86km from Medellín You can take a bus and stay overnight if time allows (more relaxed) I joined a tour for convenience (transport + lunch included) Climb 700 zigzagging steps up this 100,000-ton monolith under the blazing sun ☀️→ but the "Thousand Islands" lake view from the top is absolutely worth it! Guatapé Town: Famous for its vibrant, photogenic streets 🎨 Lakeside activities available (I skipped the boat tour and opted for a Colombian spa treatment instead 💆♀️) Entrance to the rock: 20,000 COP (not included in tour) Perfect blend of adventure and relaxation! #GuatapeColombia #TravelDiaries #MedellinTours
