Delphi | Fulfilling All My Fantasies About Ancient Greek Ruins
✅ Delphi, nestled among the mountains, is said to be where Zeus released two eagles to determine the center of the world—and they met here! This place completely satisfies my imagination of ancient Greek ruins‼️ ✅ Temple of Apollo – Over 2,000 years ago, this was the sacred site of Apollo. The god was apparently quite busy—after defeating a giant, he needed to recuperate, so every winter, he’d leave, and Dionysus (the god of wine) would take his place 😆. Apollo was also the god of music, and here you’ll find the earliest evidence of musical performances in ancient Greece. During the Roman era, Emperor Hadrian ordered the construction of a theater and stadium higher up the mountain. Just imagine how hard it must have been for people back then to hike up a dirt road just to watch a play or a competition! 💁 The famous maxims "Know yourself" and "Nothing in excess" were once inscribed on the temple’s columns, though they’ve since faded away. ✅ Temple of Athena – A 20-minute scorching-hot round-trip walk from the Temple of Apollo just for one photo (see first pic)? Totally worth it 😂. ✅ Archaeological Museum – Visiting the museum after seeing the Temple of Apollo in person adds so much more depth. Highlights include a female Sphinx, Greco-Egyptian hybrid sculptures, a well-preserved 2,000-year-old bronze charioteer statue, and intricate stone carvings from the Temple of Apollo. 💁 The sunset on the way back was stunning, and Arachova, a quaint town just 20 minutes from Delphi, is absolutely charming—don’t miss it if you’re driving! 💰 Temple of Apollo + Archaeological Museum: €12 ⏱ Duration: Took the 10:30 bus, arrived at 13:40, and had enough time to explore before catching the 18:30 bus back (with a quick dinner in between). 🚌 Bus Info: One-way trip: 3 hours, €16.5 Website: ktel-fokidas.gr (only works locally—my ICBC card failed, so I bought tickets on-site) Departures: 8:30, 10:30 (return: 16:30, 18:30; fewer trips on weekends) Rest stop: ~2 hours in, 10-minute break Delays: Return bus was ~10 mins late; wait across from the arrival stop (near a hotel) Terminal: Lioson Bus Station (Google Maps works; take Metro M1 to Kato Patissia, then a 10-min walk) Metro ticket: Choose 2 trips (€2.3 per person) ‼️ Tips: Bring snacks – Greek restaurants are slow; if you're in a hurry, pack food. Wear hiking shoes – Keeps out dust and gravel. Sun protection – Sleeves, hat, and plenty of water are a must! #Delphi #GreeceTravel #TempleOfApollo #HikingTheWorld #WorldHeritageSite #OffTheBeatenPath #CulturalSights #ScenicSpotsOnTheJourney
