🌵 Denver Dining | Hits & Misses in the "Food Desert"
Heard a lot about Denver’s so-called food scene before my trip, so I skipped Chinese food and explored other cuisines instead. Here’s my real-talk review: 🍜 Sukiya Ramen ⭐️⭐️✨ The spicy tonkotsu ramen was okay, but the noodles were thin — almost like packaged vermicelli. We also ordered tsukemen (dipping noodles), but it wasn’t the real deal — just a bowl of tonkotsu broth with a side of noodles and carrots 🥕 Made me miss California ramen spots even more. 🦌 Buckhorn Exchange ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ We probably ordered wrong — went at night when we weren’t too hungry. Tried the Rocky Mountain Oysters (fried bull testicles) — chewy and saucy, not my thing. The elk was pretty gamey. Quail in the combo was decent, but not amazing. Maybe the bison would’ve been better. 🥪 Leven Deli Co. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ The Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich was a surprise hit! I usually don’t love biscuits, but this one was soft and delicious — the strawberry jam inside made it next-level. The B.E.L.T. was huge but just okay. 🍔 Border Burger Bar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stopped here after visiting Pikes Peak — solid burger! The nearby spring water was a fun discovery — tasted like salty sparkling water. Locals came with cups to fill up — felt like a hidden gem. 🍝 Tavernetta ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Michelin-recognized spot, but honestly? Pretty average. The burrata was great, but the lobster pasta and lamb pasta were underwhelming and way too salty. 🌮 Savina’s Mexican Kitchen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The surprise winner of the trip! The green chili — a spicy, tender stewed meat dish — was perfectly balanced and so flavorful. Pro tip: If you’re dining solo or with one other, skip the Grandma’s Green Chili Plate — the grilled meat already comes with a side of green chili 😇 Denver, you had your ups and downs — but Savina’s made it all worth it. #DenverEats #FoodDesertNoMore #HonestReviews #TravelEats #MexicanGem #DenverFoodGuide
