Dining on Whales Grillmarkaðurinn
At a quirky restaurant in Reykjavik, perfect for ending a journey. The meat dishes are classic Nordic cuisine, paired with an abundance of jams. The biggest surprise was being able to eat the national bird, Puffin! 🐳 Grilled whale meat, seared on the outside with a blowtorch, basically sashimi on the inside, tasting like beef with a hint of tuna’s sourness. Eating this dish, I couldn’t help but think of the song “The Man Who Eats Whales” by Juno Mak. 🐎 Horse meat, pretty much similar to beef. 🐑 Lamb chops, not as delicious as those in smaller restaurants outside, with a strong gamey flavor. 🫎 Reindeer meat, similar to duck. Beef, a safe choice, the taste is passable. Also tried a starter made with Puffin 🐧 meat, which tasted more like fish, a very unique experience! #Iceland #Reykjavik
