Discovering a Magical Moroccan Restaurant in Philadelphia — Marrakesh

📍 Marrakesh | An Exotic Surprise in a South Street Alley Just off the bustling South Street, tucked away in a narrow alley, lies an unassuming door that transports you straight into the heart of the Arab world. The moment you step inside, you’re enveloped by the rich, mysterious, and romantic atmosphere of Morocco. Colorful mosaics on the walls, low sofas, and metal chandelings hanging from the ceiling—it’s like stepping into a different world. 👨‍🍳 What makes this place truly special isn’t just the decor, but the owner himself! He’s incredibly warm and welcoming, remembering the names of every table and greeting you like you’re family. He even comped our drinks, saying, “I didn’t put your drinks on the check—they’re on the house. Because I really want to see you guys again.” I was like: Definitely! See you next Saturday. 🤭 🍽 This is a set menu restaurant, with a 7-course meal at $40 per person. 🥗 Appetizer: A homemade salad that’s tangy and super refreshing (though my friend thought it was too sour for her 😂). Second Course: A sweet and savory baked egg dish dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. I wasn’t quite sold on it, but my friend loved it so much she took some home. 🍗 Main Courses: Slow-Braised Roast Chicken: The meat falls off the bone with just a fork, so tender it’s almost melting! Beef Kebab: The meat is unaged and has a more rustic texture. It’s decent, but I’d recommend trying the lamb instead. 🍚 Staple: Hand-eaten rice, but it’s not regular white rice—it feels more like millet. It’s a healthy grain option that health-conscious diners will love. 🍉 Fruit Platter + Moroccan Dessert: The fruit is super sweet but unwashed (a bit of a letdown). The dessert is so sweet it feels like you need a hundred insulin shots after one bite. 🍹 Their cocktails are only $5! We ordered the Rose Drink and White Russian. The alcohol content is super generous, so much so that the drink is almost overpowering... but both are very sweet, so order with caution! #Philadelphia #RestaurantRecommendation #StudentEats #PhiladelphiaLife #PhiladelphiaFood #PhiladelphiaExploration #PhiladelphiaRestaurants
