Discovering a Magical Moroccan Restaurant in Philadelphia - Marra
📍 Marrakesh | An Exotic Surprise in a South Street Alley Just off the bustling South Street, tucked away in a narrow alley, lies a hidden gem. Push through an unassuming door, and you’re instantly transported to the Arab world! The place is decked out in authentic Moroccan style, with colorful mosaics on the walls, low sofas, and metal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Every corner exudes mystery and romance. 👨🍳 But the most special thing about this place isn’t the decor—it’s the owner! He’s incredibly warm and even remembers the names of every table. He greeted us like we were family. He even comped our drinks, saying, “I didn’t put your drinks on the check. They’re on the house. Because I really want to see you guys again.” I was like: Definitely! See you next Saturday. 🤭 🍽 Set Menu: The restaurant offers a set menu with 7 courses for $40 per person. 🥗 Appetizer: Homemade salad, tangy and super refreshing (though my friend from Guangxi thought it was too sour for her taste 😂). The second course was a sweet and savory baked egg dish, dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. I wasn’t a huge fan, but my friend loved it so much she took some home. 🍗 Main Courses: Slow-Roasted Chicken: The meat falls off the bone with just a fork. It’s incredibly tender! Beef Kebab: The meat is unaged, giving it a more rustic texture. It’s decent, but I’d recommend trying the lamb instead. 🍚 Staple: The main dish is a type of hand rice, but it’s not regular rice. It feels more like millet. It’s a whole grain, perfect for health-conscious diners. 🍉 Dessert and Fruit Platter: The fruit is super sweet, but it wasn’t washed. The dessert is so sweet it feels like you need a hundred insulin shots after one bite. 🍹 Cocktails: Their cocktails are only $5! We ordered a Rose Drink and a White Russian. The alcohol content is super generous, so the drinks are quite strong. But they’re also very sweet, so be cautious when ordering! 💃 Friday/Saturday Night: There’s a belly dance performance! We missed it this time, but I definitely want to see it next time. 💡 TL;DR: This place feels like a cozy cafeteria. The atmosphere is warm, the service is amazing, the food is excellent, and the value is incredible. (I kept wondering how they make any money... I asked myself this a hundred times that night.) ✨ Next Time: I’ll definitely come for the belly dance and try to get some more free drinks from the owner! 🚀 #Philadelphia #RestaurantRecommendation #StudentLife #PhillyLiving #PhillyFood #PhillyExploration #PhillyRestaurants
