Do You Know the Fearless Girl of Wall Street? π
Eight years ago, a new bronze statue named "Fearless Girl," standing four feet tall, quietly appeared across from the iconic Wall Street Charging Bull. π’π This girl, hands on hips and head held high, stands facing the bull, with a plaque at her feet inscribed with the words: "Know the power of women's leadership, she is changing the world." ππSubsequently, the Mayor of New York announced that the "Fearless Girl" statue would be moved to directly face the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Coincidentally, the NYSE was also set to welcome its first female president in its 226-year history. On May 25th, NYSE Chief Operating Officer Stacey π’π Cunningham officially succeeded the departing President Thomas Farley, becoming the 67th leader of the exchange. πΌ Since then, two out of the three major U.S. stock exchanges have been helmed by women. Nasdaq appointed Adena Friedman as CEO in early 2017. π’πA similar story unfolded in Hong Kong, China, where on April 26th, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Board announced the appointment of Cecilia Chan as the first female chairperson in its history. From the Wall Street Bull to the "Fearless Girl," women are increasingly penetrating the core of the financial industry, bringing their unique perspectives and ways of thinking, and propelling finance forward through this gender dynamic. ππ #WallStreet #FearlessGirl #NYSE πππ
