Fearless Girl is a bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal, on Broad Street across from the New York Stock Exchange Building in the Financial District of Manhattan in New York City. The statue was installed on March 7, 2017, in anticipation of International Women's Day the following day. It depicts a 4-foot high (1.2 m) girl promoting female empowerment. Fearless Girl was commissioned by State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), a large asset management company, to advertise for an index fund that comprises gender-diverse companies that have a relatively high percentage of women among their senior leadership. A plaque originally placed below the statue stated: "Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes a difference," with "SHE" being both a descriptive pronoun and the fund's NASDAQ ticker symbol. Read moreTook my 17 year old daughter to see this and The Raging Bull after we tended to some business. When we first walked by it was only 1 person taking a picture, but my daughter insisted she was hungry and just wanted to get to Potbelly for a sandwich.
By the time we had lunch, we decided to do the SeaGlass Carousel, which was spectacular. We then headed to the charging bull/Raging Bull statue and much to my surprise there was a long line to take a picture in front and even behind it. I mean seriously ridiculous. Especially people who were grabbing the balls of the bull which was so strange. 🙄
Anyway, we got back to The Fearless Girl and there was a crowd around her. My daughter was like, "We should have taken the photo before". Once we realized people were just jumping in and there was no order, we followed suit and in about 5 minutes we were able to take a photo.
