🌟 Dordogne: France’s Best-Kept Secret for Village Hopping 🌳💛
My favorite trip in years – a hidden paradise of storybook villages and golden landscapes! Tucked away in southwestern France, Dordogne remains one of the country’s most underrated gems. You’ll mostly encounter French locals here, and every corner feels like a dreamy postcard. Over four days of road-tripping, these spots stole my heart: 1️⃣ La Roque-Gageac: A fairytale village clinging to cliffs along the Dordogne River. Rent a canoe or paddleboard for magical valley views. 2️⃣ The Marqueyssac Gardens: Wander through 22 hectares of quintessentially French topiary gardens, with hidden trails offering panoramic river vistas. 3️⃣ Beynac-et-Cazenac: A hilltop medieval village with the region’s most photogenic winding streets and honey-stone cottages. 4️⃣ Rocamadour: The "Sky Village" – a jaw-dropping pilgrimage site built vertically into limestone cliffs (1.5h drive from main villages). 📍 Perfect Road Trip Route From Bordeaux, drive 3h to cluster Beynac → Marqueyssac → La Roque-Gageac in one day. Dedicate another day to Rocamadour or other hidden hamlets. Every village here feels uniquely enchanting! 💡 PS: Sarlat-la-Canéda is the area’s bustling tourist hub with shops/cafés, but skip it if you prefer authentic charm over crowds. 🍷 Food Tip Every village bistro serves stellar regional fare. Don’t miss the iconic confit de canard (duck leg slow-cooked in its own fat) – a Dordogne must-try! #FranceTravel #HiddenFrance #DordogneMagic #VillageHopping #RoadTripGoals
