Read moreOur final stop of the day was pure magic: Château de Marqueyssac and its stunning gardens. • The weather finally gave us a break after nearly a week of rain, and we could not have asked for a more perfect day to wander through the dreamy topiary paths of Les Jardins de Marqueyssac. The gardens felt like a whimsical maze that just kept going and going, we did not mind getting a little lost as we explored every twist and turn. • We eventually made it all the way to the Belvedère, where we were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Dordogne Valley, including a peek at our little village, La Roque-Gageac, nestled below. • As the sun began to set, we caught sight of a few hot air balloons lifting gently into the sky, an incredible way to take in the golden light of the evening. We were hoping to have a coffee half way around - there wasn’t any information about catering on the map - we did find a vending machine, a small cafe (shut at 11am), a creperie (also shut at 11:20), then at the end - a very nice cafe and restaurant at the “Chateau”. We did have a nice coffee there and the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Unfortunately, by then we had already lost confidence in the catering facilities, so decided not to have lunch there. On reflection, this was a shame as the views from the terrace were stunning and the food got good reviews. Would recommend arriving at the Chateau at around 11:45 as we did, as the tables filled up quickly . We had arrived at the gardens at around 10:30, so we took about 1:15 to walk around the gardens. You could take longer, especially with children / if you want to try the climbing wall, read about the...
