šŸø Double Knot | A Fun & Hidden Underground Japanese Spot šŸ¶

I first heard about Double Knot from a friend’s bad review—during Restaurant Week, they were told the whole table had to order the same menu, no mix-and-match. Pretty rigid, so my impression wasn’t great. But last week, craving yakitori, a friend asked if I wanted to try it—so we went. šŸ½ļø Ambience & Seating Reservations let you choose: upstairs bar/table or downstairs bar/table. We picked downstairs table—led down a deep, cellar-like staircase into a bustling, secret-club vibe. Sushi bar in the back, lively atmosphere—but lighting is seriously dim. Had to use the candle to read the menu. If you’re hungry, just ask the server to recommend quickly! šŸ¹ Cocktails Since we couldn’t read the menu, we went with server recommendations. 1st drink: Spicy Mexican-style vodka cocktail – a bit odd but drinkable. My friend said: ā€œTastes like a dish.ā€ šŸ˜‚ 2nd drink: Rum-based with lychee – sweet and smooth, no complaints. 3rd drink: ā€œDouble Knotā€ signature – bourbon smoked tableside with cinnamon. Earthy and theatrical! šŸ¢ Yakitori & Small Plates We ordered our favorite skewers: Grilled asparagus & Short ribs – Best of the night! Perfectly seasoned (not too salty, unlike most dishes). Other yakitori were fresh and well-cooked, especially seafood—tender and bouncy. šŸ Crispy Tofu – Sweet glaze, crispy outside, moist inside. Tasty, but a bit salty. šŸš Main Mushroom truffle fried rice – topped with dancing bonito flakes. Truffle flavor was subtle. Delicious, but a bit salty. My Northern Chinese friend thought the salt level was just right, so if you prefer bold flavors, you’ll enjoy it more. We wanted to try sushi too, but we were already stuffed—partly from drinking lots of water (thanks to the saltiness) plus three cocktails and two coffees earlier in the day. šŸ’¦ šŸ’” Overall A cool, hidden underground restaurant—great for intimate gatherings, with solid drinks and fresh ingredients. Just be ready for the salt! #PhillyRestaurants #PhillyEats #PhillyFood #JapaneseCuisine #SpeakeasyVibes #Philly #PhillyLife
