Driving to the United States Military Academy at West Point(2) π
Looking out the window of the exhibition room, a river flows right before your eyes. This place was once an important military stronghold during the American Revolutionary War. π’π The Hudson River takes an "S" shape with a sharp bend here, forcing large vessels to slow down, making them vulnerable to attack. More significantly, the high ground on the west bank of the river offers a commanding position, truly embodying the saying "one man guarding the pass, ten thousand cannot get through," making it a strategic location for military contention. π° ππΊ This academy has produced two presidents, four five-star generals, and 3,700 generals. Both MacArthur, who was rarely seen without a pipe, and Patton, known for his colorful language, graduated from here. π π’π My elder companion mentioned that during her visit years ago, tourists could walk up to the buildings and even take photos with soldiers fresh from training. Nowadays, that's no longer possible; we can only admire from a distance. πΈ ππΊVisits require advance payment and reservation. If you drive, park at the entrance and then take the school's tour bus for a guided tour with staff providing explanations. #StrategicLocation #WestPointAcademy π
