Earth Art Spiral Jetty - Travel Journal 📔✨
Read countless books, travel countless miles. The information that books convey in a static form, I always gain a different experience through dynamic on-site travels. This time, on the way back from Yellowstone to Salt Lake City, I made a special trip to pilgrimage to one of the world's most iconic earth artworks—Spiral Jetty by Robert Smithson. As the water level of the Great Salt Lake has receded, the artwork has completed its transformation, with the rocks fully exposed. The charm of earth art lies in its interaction and change over time and environment. The giant spiral stands in the midst of desolation, with the faintly purple salt lake in the distance seeming to tell a story. Perhaps the initial passion and grandeur have faded, but it has gained a sense of tranquility and solemnity. 🌄💫 It’s a powerful reminder of how nature and art intertwine, creating something truly timeless. Travel Tips: It’s about a two-hour drive from Salt Lake City. We visited on our way back from Yellowstone to Salt Lake City. Before turning onto the dirt road to Spiral Jetty, you’ll definitely pass the visitor center of Golden Spike National Historical Park. This is where the two transcontinental railroads once met, and many Chinese laborers contributed to its construction. It’s worth a quick look at the history, plus you can use the restroom 🚻, check out the gift shop 🛍️, and even get a stamp in your National Park Passport! The staff there are very friendly and may even share some historical photos of Spiral Jetty. 🚂📜 After that, you’ll need to drive 16 miles (about 30 minutes) on a gravel road. There are a few unmarked turns along the way, and there’s no cell service! So make sure to download offline maps! 🗺️📵 Spiral Jetty is extremely remote with no facilities nearby. Due to the receding water level, it hasn’t been covered by the salt lake since 2019, and it’s quite dry. Remember to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water! ☀️💧 #RoadTripDreams #USNationalHistoricLandmark #EarthArt #SaltLakeCityTravel #OffTheBeatenPath #TravelUSA #HiddenGems
