Edmonton, North America’s Northernmost Major City

Today, OG Travel Diary brings you a full guide to Edmonton, a city in central Canada that I visited this year. Perfect for a one or two-day trip! I came to Calgary for a U.S. visa appointment and decided to stay in Edmonton—where accommodation and food are cheaper. Compared to Calgary and its surroundings, Edmonton feels a bit more remote, but it still has some hidden gems. Whether you're nearby or here for a visa, this city is worth exploring! 🌟 It’s also known as the northernmost major metropolis in North America. 🏨 Accommodation: Cheaper near the airport and not too far from the city. The city is fairly compact. 📍 Keillor Point A riverside viewpoint. The river flows through the city—nice but not spectacular. 📍 🌟 Queen Elizabeth Park A great urban park and one of the best spots for skyline views. Take a stroll and climb a small hill to enjoy a panoramic view of Edmonton. 📍 🌟 River Valley Overlook Another iconic postcard-worthy spot! Perfect for both daytime and nighttime skyline views. A must-visit! 📍 West Edmonton Mall One of the largest shopping malls in Northama. Plus, Alberta has low taxes! 🛍️ 📍 🌟 Alberta Legislature Building Located downtown. Join a guided tour, learn about history and culture, and enjoy a walk in the park. 📍 🌟 Elk Island National Park A wildlife sanctuary northeast of Edmonton, famous for its elk, bison, migratory birds, and dark skies perfect for stargazing and aurora viewing. Astotin Lake is a highlight. Ideal for hiking, boating, and picnics. I spotted plenty of birds and a bison ranch! 🦌🌌 📍 Art Gallery of Alberta Features contemporary and traditional art, including paintings, sculptures, and photography. The building itself is architecturally creative. Located near 📍 Churchill Square, across from 📍 Edmonton City Hall and the fountain, and close to 📍 Royal Alberta Museum. 📍 Muttart Conservatory A botanical garden housed in iconic glass pyramids—filled with beautiful flowers! 🌸 📍 🌟 University of Alberta One of Canada’s top universities. The Main Quad is especially picturesque—perfect for a relaxing stroll. 🎓 🍴 Food Recommendations: 📍 Yang Ming Buffet: All-you-can-eat Chinese buffet with seafood and dim sum. 📍 Da Qin Noodle House: Northern Chinese noodle dishes. 📍 Chang’an Restaurant: Lamb paomo and grilled skewers. 📍 Izakaya Tomo: Cozy Japanese pub. #TravelCanada #NorthAmericanLife #WeekendGetaway #HiddenGems #CityWalk 🌲🏙️🇨🇦✨
