Encountering Millennia at the German Museum 🌍✨

Welcome to the New Museum in Berlin, Germany! This UNESCO World Heritage site was designated as a world cultural asset in 1999. Located on Museum Island in Berlin, the New Museum was commissioned by Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and constructed between 1843 and 1855. The building features a design that blends Neoclassical and Renaissance elements, considered a masterpiece by Friedrich August Stüler. 🏛️ As the second museum built on Museum Island, it serves as an extension of the Old Museum. The New Museum showcases a diverse range of exhibits, including plaster models, ancient Egyptian artifacts, collections from prehistoric and early history, ethnographic collections, as well as prints and paintings. It is also regarded as the “original source” of the collections from the Berlin Egyptian Museum and the Berlin Ethnological Museum. 🌟 Additionally, the New Museum stands as an important monument in the history of German architecture and technology. With its various steel structures, it was the first monumental building in the Prussian Empire to utilize industrialized technologies. It also innovatively introduced steam engine technology into Berlin's architecture. ⚙️ The museum closed at the beginning of World War II in 1939 and suffered significant damage during the bombing of Berlin in 1945. The reconstruction was overseen by British architect David Chipperfield. Finally, the New Museum officially reopened to the public in October 2009 and received the RIBA European Award in 2010 and the Mies van der Rohe European Contemporary Architecture Award in 2011. 🎉 Currently, the New Museum primarily exhibits collections from Egypt, prehistory, and early history, featuring the iconic bust of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti. (⚠️ Note: Nefertiti is under special protection—visitors can only look 👀 but not take photos in this area!) 💶 Ticket Prices: Adults €16, free for under 18s. It's recommended to purchase tickets in advance on the official website; staff will scan your QR code at the entrance. 📲 Hours 🕑: Monday: Closed Tuesday: 10:00–18:00 Wednesday: 10:00–18:00 Thursday: 10:00–18:00 Friday: 10:00–18:00 Saturday: 10:00–18:00 Sunday: 10:00–18:00 #WorldHistory #ArtAppreciation #RomanceAcrossMillennia #TraditionAndModernity #Museum #ArtInMuseums #Germany
